Smile Kentucky! works with school districts to determine which schools will participate in the program for the school year.  The program includes free dental education and screenings during a visit to the school, followed by free dental treatment for qualified children at a dental facility.

During the first phase, Smile Kentucky! volunteers visit select schools, providing a dental education program to every classroom..  Children in grades 3 - 5 or 6 receive a free dental screening. Local dentists and hygienists provide the screenings.  Every child at the school receives a goody bag with a Colgate toothbrush and toothpaste and other materials that reinforce what they learn in the classroom.

During the second phase, Smile Kentucky! provides free, comprehensive dental treatment to medically underserved children from participating schools.  Information gathered from the screenings is used to identify children who need dental treatment and have no insurance or federal assistance.

Smile Kentucky! also provides programming in the community through local partners like Bernheim Forest, Bullitt County Public Libraries, Chick-fil-A -St. Matthews and -Springhurst, Louisville Water Tower Park, and Texas Roadhouse.
